Unlike word processing or using a spreadsheet, programs that deal with notated music have a lot more of an individual way of treating the notation. Therefore, if anyone asks me to indicate which one I think is best, I always recommend that they get a free trial of both and try them out for themselves. Which one you prefer boils down to your personal choice – which one you find the most intuitive and straightforward, that your students can get to grips with. I must also add, right at the beginning of this article, that everything I’m about to say is not intended to recommend one over the other: they are both excellent, useful and fantastic to use with students.
